SSO login
Brian Lenz Hi @Harvey Mercado , You can set up your SSO configuration so that users of your system will be automatically registered in Crowdstack without any further registration steps. To do that, you need to make sure that your SAML Assertion provides all of the profile fields for Crowdstack, which includes, at a minimum, Email Address and Display Name. Once you have everything set up, then anyone who visits Crowdstack will need to sign in or register on your external system in order to get signed in... [ more ]
Harvey Mercado Thanks for your reply, appreciate your prompt response. I will check out OpenSAML for the implementation. Actually, the goal is for the users in our website to access pages in crowdstack without having to do any additional registration with crowdstack. Do we need a crowdstack account for this? After we set up SAML identity provider in our website as well as, configure SSO and upload the metadata in crowdstack. How do we log in (or register, for new users) to crowdstack from our website? Do... [ more ]
Brian Lenz Hi @Harvey Mercado , The API is not meant to be used for Single Sign-On; rather it's more of a tool for pushing and pulling data to/from Crowdstack programmatically. Crowdstack uses SAML 2.0 for SSO, so in order to hook up your Crowdstack via SSO, you will need to implement a SAML Identity Provider on your registration and login system. In SSO mode, Crowdstack will act as a SAML Service Provider. SAML 2.0 is an open standard with tons of information widely available. You can learn more about... [ more ]

Forum topics listing pages don't pick up formatting used on replies
El Loro Thanks Rosemary [ more ]
Rosemary O'Neill Yes, you're right that the replies don't display formatting on the main page. I'll take this as a suggestion for the future! Meantime, for spoilers, I'd just artificially bump the spoiler text with asterisks or line returns so it doesn't appear on the main page. [ more ]
El Loro The Christmas specials I mentioned, there are two Celebrity specials and two Professional specials. Each of the four episodes have four contestants. One of the Celebrity specials has broadcaster and journalist Janet Street-Porter, actor Christopher Biggins, broadcaster Dev Griffin and TV personality Vicky Pattison. The other has Strictly Come Dancing judge, choreographer and director, Craig Revel Horwood, entrepreneur and TV presenter Amar Latif, actress Crissy Rock and entrepreneur,... [ more ]

Rosemary O'Neill Hi Phil, and thanks for being such a long-time customer! Looks like you need to get SSL enabled on your site; there were some changes in the last few years on that front ( https://hey.crowdstack.com/blo...y-for-your-community ). If you'd like us to add an SSL certificate for your site, just click this link to start a support ticket . [ more ]

Using Crowdstack Blog to publish a club magazine?
Ted @ Crowdstack ❤️
Rosemary O'Neill Super cool idea John! Hopefully someone will chime in here...offhand, I like the way that @Paul Heymont at TravelGumbo incorporates the blog with their forums, maybe he could share a little insight. You can definitely copy in text and images to your blog, and organize the posts into "collections" with tags and dates. You can also store your PDFs in the Resource area, and those PDFs are indexed inside Crowdstack's search function (all of the text inside the PDFs). Crowdstack's notifications... [ more ]

Add Custom Icon To All Member Titles
Lori Hi, @Valerie Krist : I just saw this and wondered if you'd gotten an answer someplace else? If not, you'll want to go to Settings>>Design>>Display Settings, and add that CSS to the field marked "Custom CSS". [ more ]
Valerie Krist I'm trying to figure out where to put this CSS. I asked about adding badges to title names and I got this response and link to this article. I somehow got to Automation Rules, then creating a rule for Activity Milestones using triggers, but I don't see where to add CSS. Can you point me to where I can do this so it can be based off of points or triggers? Thanks! [ more ]

Deprecating the Activity Stream
neil @Rich Melvin While I appreciate your appreciation, Rich, my reading of various posts from Julie, Plance, and you at OGR suggest that y'all are using the A.S. differently than we do (used to). Seems like you folks want some of the A.S.' functionality on User Profile Pages, whereas we liked it as a look-see widget on our homepage and embedded on a custom page. My eulogy doesn't mention your User Profile functions. That said, yes, I would love to see the "activity" publicly visible... [ more ]
Rich Melvin "...can you be more specific about what you're missing from the Activity Stream?..." Read Neil's post in this thread . He did a much better job of explaining this than I could ever do. ALL THAT is what's missing! [ more ]
Plance @Brian Lenz , I, and our forum, will be happy if the new Posts tab will be as functional and we can copy/paste it into future posts as live links to members' valued content as we could before. Thank you for your response! [ more ]

What are you guys and gals using for HTML and CSS changes?
DBenoit Rosemary, I do have access to customizable CSS. I'm assuming that this also means I can customize some of the HTML. I'll be doing some research this evening on both via this forum! [ more ]
DBenoit Thank you, by the way, for your help in getting me going in the right direction! [ more ]

Calculating advertising space, affiliate capacity, and resources to properly price per industry?
DBenoit Hi Rosemary, I'd be looking to run ad offerings for paid sponsors/adspace buyers, and not necessarily Google AdSense advertisements. I have to admit, I have not yet reviewed the blog regarding advertising on crowdstack! For the purpose of creating financial projections for my business plan, I need to know how to figure out how much advertising space exists/can be created with the foundation plan (to start) from which I can figure out advertising rates based on traffic rates and industry. [ more ]
Rosemary O'Neill Are you looking to run your own ad offerings, or insert programmatic ads like Google AdSense in the community? Off the top of my head, I'd think @Yasmin might have some insights on how ads can work within Crowdstack. [ more ]

Community Beta Testing and Crowdfunding Experiences?
DBenoit Thank you guys, all really good information. I will have to digest it! I have the basic structure of the site laid out. It is geared toward fostering exchange and encouraging interaction between members with each subgroup (with the exception of "medical conditions in the field") having it's own introduction and event forum, and a separate discussion forum. There are also chat rooms set up for each subgroup, including each medical condition listed in the "medical conditions in the field." I... [ more ]

A new email digest system for Crowdstack
Pretty Thunder ❤️ 💯 🔥
Rich Melvin ANON_BM, you have perfectly described our situation with your truck site analogy. We run a site about model trains. Here is a small portion of the menu structure from that site: Train Forums Traditional 3-Rail O Gauge 2-Rail Scale Forum 3-Rail Scale Forum Tinplate Trains O Scale Narrow Gauge Forum S-Scale Trains Subways/Transit/Traction Real Trains Layout Building Forums Track Plans and Layout Design Electrical Forum Scenery and Structures etc. Someone who is into Traditional 3-Rail O Gauge... ANON_BM Imagine a classic truck site if you will... it would be broken down by make and generation... I may be interested in the "1st Gen Ford F Series 1948-1952", but the the Chevrolet C10 Forum, and now it looks like the only option will be to follow all trucks of all models and generations instead of the ones particular to me. Just as @Ted @ Crowdstack erroneously presumed I was a site admin, Crowdstack erroneously presumes they know best for notifications and removes features and flexibility. [ more ]

Lori Hi, Amy! In your control panel, look for Subgroups, and choose the Manage link. Find the subgroup that you want to delete, check the box next to it, and scroll to the bottom of the page. From the dropdown, choose "Delete Subgroup(s). You'll be presented with a confirmation popup. Note that all the content from the Subgroup will also be deleted. Hope that helps! Lori [ more ]

Content Stream block
Rosemary O'Neill Ah, ok. We'll just consider this another "vote" for less extracty extracts then. No worries about posting over here, maybe someone else will weigh in with a brilliant workaround! [ more ]
neil Many of the "best of" are only posts, not the full topic. ☹️ Given the varied nature of this beast, looks like we have to post links manually via a custom HTML block, ...unless they ever decide to make the extract feature less "extracty." so that it preserves links and bulletin. And sorry for posting this in the "Discussions" area and not posting this in the Support area. [ more ]
Rosemary O'Neill Ok, interesting idea....I've got a couple of possible solutions. 1. Create a "Best of" forum (and don't allow regular members to post or comment in it). Move your "best" topics to that forum. Create a Content Block for that forum and put it on the home page. 2. Create a Custom HTML content block (one time) that contains 3-5 bullet point links and nicely formatted text paragraph (or sentence). On a weekly, monthly, or other basis, just replace the links and paragraphs with the new topics you... [ more ]

Is engagement and participation important?
ST Hi, Mother-of-Many. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree. In some organizations, decisions are driven by metrics (quantity). It takes a different kind of insight to discern quality. I would like to see Crowdstack give us tools to do sentiment analysis . As a start, I'd like to know how I can use the Community Rank to measure engagement. Jonmark @ Crowdstack Let me see if I can get this to work in the wysiwyg editor: This is a test Which definitely works. I think that the issue you are having is that you are trying to use the fas class, which I'm not sure is available in Font Awesome 4.7 (the version we are currently using in Crowdstack). We have plans to upgrade this in an upcoming release. Next, since the WYSIWYG does not have Font Awesome icon support built directly into it you will need to use the "Source code" option on the far right to... [ more ]

Quick Tip for SEO and Accessibility - Image Details and Alt Tag in Posts
