  • QuestionAnswered
I would like to generate a Recipe using the "Comment / Reply Posted" trigger which would only look at posts in one of our forums and then take action. Is this possible, or do all recipes act site-wide?
  • QuestionAnswered
Can I disable a Forum without deleting it? I would like to prevent everyone from continuing to post, but keep it on our site so that people can see old topics and resources. Thanks, Emma
  • QuestionAnswered
Hi, I have question to ask . I want to migrate all data from eve community to my personal forum .. e.g vbullitin . Is there any option to do this please do reply .
  • QuestionAnswered
Is there a feature where a forum member who is not a moderator can click on a link to report a posting for review? I'm attempting to limit the number of moderators on my board and want people to be able to alert those that remain of a suspicious posting.
  • QuestionUnanswered
Is any documentation available for UBBForum?  I haven't been able to find any.  Regardless, I migrated servers, and while hostnames were resolving, forum users were in all liklihood posting to a database either on the new host or old host....
  • SuggestionUnder Consideration
We have many forum topics and some members follow a few in particular and not the others. In addition to sorting by "most active" it would be great if a user could sort by followed topics to bring those to the top, and/or otherwise see a list of their followed topics (like they see pending posts.) Thanks!

Hey Jason, Moving posts between topics is going to be difficult. Mostly because of how Eve handles the feature. I believe that it will only show you the most recent 100 topics within the forum that the topic was posted to. So what this means is likely you will need to create a new topic, called something like moderated posts within the forum, move the posts to it, and then move that topic to the moderated forum. Not ideal, I know, but currently Eve does not have a way to search for the topic...

ok, thanks. I think it would be great if there was a way to "Hide" posts in a thread on the fly, that only show to moderators, so that they are archived in-line, but not public.

Hey Jason, We definitely see the gap in this feature and are internally discussing options to ease this issue. I cant guarantee if/when this gap will be addressed but I can assure you its on our radar now. Thanks for your feedback, Jonmark

Will do! I've basically been encouraging everyone I know interested in my site concept to share it like crazy. Having the support of friends / family with thriving online social networks helps a ton. And I realized that I should sign up for a FB page so I could entice regular FB users BACK to my site by posting news and blog post links there. Learning a lot and loving what you guys are doing! Where are you located? A couple people have asked and I can't figure it out. Morgan

Yes, you should definitely leverage your FB presence. That will help you too. The bulk of our staff are in Seattle, WA, but a couple of us are in Charleston, SC. We're in the process of opening a second office here. It's definitely helping us to have folks in two time zones!

You sure can! On your blog page, on the right hand column, you should see an RSS link. Just grab that and feed it into Hootsuite as I described above, and voila. Just let me know if you run into any trouble, and I can help further.

Hello , I am excited about the news. Would like to be a tester. I have sub communities. would this feature remain? Very good news and thanks for sharing.

Hi Margarita- You'll be on our beta/upgrade server when it is available... and we'll notify you when that happens, of course. We will still be supporting groups (which is what I think you were referring to). Not planning to drop any features.

That's great news. Are there any plans to evolve this into a quiz functionality eventually? (Where users would get an answer based on the selections they made?)
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Robert- We have no current plans for a quiz feature, but if that is of interest to you I'd suggest posting your idea(s) as a suggestion to our support site , so that we can consider it for a future release. I can see how that would be cool.

Hi, I’ve gone to my admin console, and as a Super Admin, I am not able to set permissions to create surveys. Create survey is not an option here: http://forums.bicycling.com/cp/survey-settings Thanks, Brad
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Brad, On the Survey Settings page, you can set the default permissions for newly created surveys (for who can complete the survey and view the survey results). You do not set the actual Create Survey permission there, however. To control who can Create Surveys, you need to go into the Permissions section of your control panel. Select the Permission Circle that you want to be able to create surveys and then click the Permissions tab. For example, for All Members, that URL is:...

Call me stupid but I cant seem to figure out how to post a survey. Had no problems with polls.
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Yojeffo- Go to the Surveys page and click on the big "Create Survey" button on the top right. Alternatively, you can click on the "Post Content" button (also in the top right) on the "Home" page. There is also a "Create Survey" link as a submenu item In the "Surveys" menu item. It basically works the same way as any other content type in Hoop.la. If you are not seeing these Create Survey buttons/links, it means that you do not have permission to create surveys, which would be a permission...

I am interested in creating a survey for only a small subset of users. I do not wish to make it public or post it to the community, but rather send out an e-mail to certain users with a link to the survey. So, when I create the survey is it automatically posted to the community, or can I hide it? Will a link be generated to put in an e-mail?
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Dan- Each survey you create has its own configurable permissions controlling who can take the survey and also (separately) who can view the results. The survey will be posted to the community, but again the only people that will be able to see the survey on your site at all will be the ones who can either take the survey or view the results. Thus, for your scenario, if you limit permissions for your survey to just the permission circle comprised of the users you referred to, then only...

As I told in the "What would you like us to do next"? survey last month, a webspace manager is just what I was looking for. Amazing to see it implemented so quickly!

Hi, As the site owner you can always access your data. In the web services panel you can make a complete backup of the database. Go to http://(your site here)/config and log in. Use the lost password link if you've lost it. Once you log in, in the top group of links - left side - select "create/restore backups" and on the resulting page you'll see that you have options to backup all or part of your data. If you're looking to migrate to a different forum system you'll need the database which...

Recommendation Engine. Do I have to pay extra for this? It looks useful but surely based on the monthly fee this would be a normal integration as part of the development of the site? Could you let me know?

Hi Ted, do you have an update on the estimated launch for beta testing? I vaguely recall an August projection, so I thought I'd check.
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Lynda- I'll be posting a new blog post with an update sometime next week.
  • Blog Post Comment
Re: Creating Content is Simpler I am really hoping that you all include in this update a way to move a post to add it as a reply to an existing post. With this "simpler" way of posting, I'm forecasting our users will probably post in the wrong spot. (We've got a lot of possible forums and topics and posts.) -- Carol

Excellent! Any projected time frame for roll out? We want to be beta testers!! Lynda
  • Blog Post Comment
Hi Lynda- Your site will be set up on our upgrade/beta server around the end of August, assuming current projections hold up. While on that server, you will be able to create new theme(s) and change other settings so you can see what your site looks like on the new codebase. Then, once that "upgrade/beta" period ends, we will start the process of upgrading all live sites to the new codebase (and we will bring over all new themes/settings you set on that beta/upgrade server over automatically...

Re: Responsive Project Update I feel your pain Ted. I'm facing the reworking of 3 sites to be responsive. All I can say is this better not be a fad like previous "new methods" from the past that came and went. LOL That said, it does make sense to be as versatile as possible. Our audience is no longer PC/Mac, it is mobile and beyond. We simply cannot be without a connection to whatever it is we simply must have access to. Anyone remember Mosaic, the good old days. Only one browser.. lol
  • Blog Post Comment
Agree with you JC - we are now 65% mobile, and climbing every month. The responsive design website we just completed in March has seen a terrific improvement in pages per user, minutes on site and a much lower bounce rate. Right now those metrics are a combination of our responsive website plus our hoop.la community. So those metrics should improve even more once our community is responsive. And yes, I remember Mosaic. And dial up. Neither are pleasant memories.

ONE!.. lol Then Netscape, then it which shall not be named (IE). Chrome, Safari, and on and on.. and don't get me started on Android. It's like computing started all over again. A reverse big bang. Nice hearing from you, JC! I'm confident in the future of responsive design, though of course techniques and best practices will change over time. But the overall approach is unquestionably solid. From a browser standpoint, the best recent news is that Microsoft's next browser will be evergreen . The biggest handicap to web design has always been having to continue to support IE's archaic versions.

Will our existing non-responsive header & footer HTML & images be copied over so I can at least adapt those on the day it's moved?
  • Blog Post Comment
Ted, as a follow up to this question about headers and footers - is this something we can ask for a quote on to have your team make our header and footer responsive for us? I just remember the code conflicts we had to deal with when we tried to do our own code.

Specifically, I want to allow a moderator to allow some members, but not all, access to a specific forum. How is that done?
  • Support Topic Reply
Hello John, On Eve there is really no way to allow a member who is just a forum moderator to control who can access the forum like that. In order to restrict access to a forum the way you describe you would need to have a Permission Group with access to the forum, and then add members who you want to participate in that forum to that Permission Group. The reason that this does not lend itself to your scenario is that the ability to add members to a Permission Group requires Super...
