Community Beta Testing and Crowdfunding Experiences?
DBenoit Thank you guys, all really good information. I will have to digest it! I have the basic structure of the site laid out. It is geared toward fostering exchange and encouraging interaction between members with each subgroup (with the exception of "medical conditions in the field") having it's own introduction and event forum, and a separate discussion forum. There are also chat rooms set up for each subgroup, including each medical condition listed in the "medical conditions in the field." I... [ more ]
ST Hi, DBenoit. Thanks for giving us some more information about you and your goals in your profile . From your profile What's your community's big goal? The goal of this community is to foster the exchange of experiences, issues, information, and inspiration toward overcoming personal health challenges in the hunting and fishing communities. Have you found any places (physical or virtual) where like-minded people congregate? I'm picking up on Rosemary's thoughts about brick and mortar... [ more ]

A new email digest system for Crowdstack
Pretty Thunder ❤️ 💯 🔥
Rich Melvin ANON_BM, you have perfectly described our situation with your truck site analogy. We run a site about model trains. Here is a small portion of the menu structure from that site: Train Forums Traditional 3-Rail O Gauge 2-Rail Scale Forum 3-Rail Scale Forum Tinplate Trains O Scale Narrow Gauge Forum S-Scale Trains Subways/Transit/Traction Real Trains Layout Building Forums Track Plans and Layout Design Electrical Forum Scenery and Structures etc. Someone who is into Traditional 3-Rail O Gauge... [ more ]
ANON_BM Imagine a classic truck site if you will... it would be broken down by make and generation... I may be interested in the "1st Gen Ford F Series 1948-1952", but the the Chevrolet C10 Forum, and now it looks like the only option will be to follow all trucks of all models and generations instead of the ones particular to me. Just as @Ted @ Crowdstack erroneously presumed I was a site admin, Crowdstack erroneously presumes they know best for notifications and removes features and flexibility. [ more ]

Delete a subgroup
Lori You're welcome, Amy! Have a great day! [ more ]
Amy, Member 7,672 Thank you kindly. I found in the end, I was looking from the subgroup not the homepage. [ more ]
Lori Hi, Amy! In your control panel, look for Subgroups, and choose the Manage link. Find the subgroup that you want to delete, check the box next to it, and scroll to the bottom of the page. From the dropdown, choose "Delete Subgroup(s). You'll be presented with a confirmation popup. Note that all the content from the Subgroup will also be deleted. Hope that helps! Lori [ more ]

Why am I suddenly getting emails from here?
Lori Sorry if I led you to believe that was a bug, @El Loro . It was not a bug. [ more ]
El Loro It was Lori: https://www.gagajoyjoy.com/top...9#632530929141605709 https://www.gagajoyjoy.com/top...9#633375495138808529 [ more ]
Ted @ Crowdstack There is no known bug concerning emails/notifications (not sure who told you there was). We did add discussion forums in the last couple of months though, so I am guessing you are noticing notifications from the forums (though there are not that many posts there). In any event, you can update your personal notification settings anytime here: https://hey.crowdstack.com/member-cp/follows Hope that helps! [ more ]

Content Stream block
Rosemary O'Neill Ah, ok. We'll just consider this another "vote" for less extracty extracts then. No worries about posting over here, maybe someone else will weigh in with a brilliant workaround! [ more ]
neil Many of the "best of" are only posts, not the full topic. ☹️ Given the varied nature of this beast, looks like we have to post links manually via a custom HTML block, ...unless they ever decide to make the extract feature less "extracty." so that it preserves links and bulletin. And sorry for posting this in the "Discussions" area and not posting this in the Support area. [ more ]
Rosemary O'Neill Ok, interesting idea....I've got a couple of possible solutions. 1. Create a "Best of" forum (and don't allow regular members to post or comment in it). Move your "best" topics to that forum. Create a Content Block for that forum and put it on the home page. 2. Create a Custom HTML content block (one time) that contains 3-5 bullet point links and nicely formatted text paragraph (or sentence). On a weekly, monthly, or other basis, just replace the links and paragraphs with the new topics you... [ more ]

Surveys
Rosemary O'Neill Hi ST, we may enable the surveys module...those are some good questions! I think we had done one previously that focused on which social network everyone used the most. Not sure if we'll open permissions for everyone to create surveys, but will definitely consider how we can use them! [ more ]

Is engagement and participation important?
ST Hi, Mother-of-Many. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree. In some organizations, decisions are driven by metrics (quantity). It takes a different kind of insight to discern quality. I would like to see Crowdstack give us tools to do sentiment analysis . As a start, I'd like to know how I can use the Community Rank to measure engagement. I'll start a new discussion to explore that question. We modified the Posting Tips section in our community. Click the picture above to see where that... [ more ]

Common CSS Utility Classes
ST Hi, Jonmark. That was helpful and I appreciate the time and effort you put into this. Signing on this topic. With thanks, ST [ more ]
Jonmark @ Crowdstack Let me see if I can get this to work in the wysiwyg editor: This is a test Which definitely works. I think that the issue you are having is that you are trying to use the fas class, which I'm not sure is available in Font Awesome 4.7 (the version we are currently using in Crowdstack). We have plans to upgrade this in an upcoming release. Next, since the WYSIWYG does not have Font Awesome icon support built directly into it you will need to use the "Source code" option on the far right to... [ more ]

Embed a widget as a content block
Dave Dreezer Hi @Valerie Krist , Almost the exact same way that Rosemary described above. For step 3 select Groups -> Group Directory. The widget defaults to 15 groups but will show up to maximum of 50, and it will display a link to see the rest. [ more ]
Valerie Krist We have hundreds of groups in our website and I want to create a custom widget that I can share/embed with all of them. How do I do that? [ more ]

Quick Tip for SEO and Accessibility - Image Details and Alt Tag in Posts
neil Thanks for the clarification. I would suggest adjusting the word "Title" in the interface to "Title and Alt Tag" because "alt tag" is common web parlance, especially in SEO practice, and is an important thing to do (provide an alt tag). [ more ]
Rosemary O'Neill Neil and Carol, I can't thank you both enough for commenting and revealing to me that this tip was half-baked! I've completely redone it, and guess what? You already can edit the Title and the Alt tags without going into the code. [ more ]

CSS: Cicada Effect: add some wobble to your member avatar lists

Pretty Thunder This isn't loading for me, is there another url? [ more ]
neil That's a fun effect. I wonder...would be pretty cool if when 'blobbing' on roll over a text also appeared saying, " Member Since 2010 ." Or "likes cats" (i.e. something from their profile's "blob field.") Would be a fun recognition. [ more ]

How to hide the page name on custom pages
Rosemary O'Neill Hi Susan, thanks! Yes, you can include other CSS that will override the higher level CSS for that page. [ more ]
Dr. Susan LaCombe HI Rosemary, this is a good tip. If I also have some CSS for the other h1 tag on the page - not the one for the title tag - could I still include information for the h1 in the CSS: h1#pageTitle { display:none; } h1 { font-size: 18pt;; font-style: bold; margin-left:8%; } .breadcrumbs {display: none;} [ more ]
neil Thanks Rosemary. I didn't remember that the new custom pages HAD their own custom CSS field. [ more ]

Post Your Site's Interesting CSS Customizations
Rich Melvin Thanks, Neil. I fixed it and it looks correct now. The URL is: http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com. I use Firefox and I have an inspector called "Firebug" on it, but I don't know how to use it. Guess I have some learning to do! [ more ]
neil Hi Rich. Please post your site's url. topic-list-box needs "padding" inside the container: Here's what we're using: .h-ubb-topic-list-box { background-color:#DEDFE0; border:1px solid #DEDFE0; padding:10px; } The How-to: I turn on Chrome's built in "Inspector" to view the CSS which is controlling whatever element I've highlighted on the webpage. (I place my cursor over the element on the site, then right click and select "inspector). Up pops a window with the html and the css source which I... [ more ]
