Hey everyone- Sometime next week, we'll be rolling out another major update for Crowdstack , this one focusing on improving navigation in the Admin Control Panel. Currently, the Admin Control Panel is one very long list of links. We're making things (hopefully) easier to get to by putting the main control panel sections in a smaller menu at the top of each control panel page, with the subsections of each main area available in a sidebar when you are in a particular section. It will look like...

Hi, i am the Admin for forums.elationlighting.com and I checked that forum today and i see there were 5 new posts and 4 of which i never got any email notification about them being created. In short, i am not seeing any new posts via email, i am subscribed to ALL forum sections and i have not gotten any emails to either of my accounts on that forum. some of my co-workers have received the new posts emails, but i have not. I checked my spam folder several times a day, not in there either.

Another major feature we are adding soon is "reactions", to be included when we roll out Pips . Reactions are an expansion on the "likes" you are already familiar with, with a much broader palette that allows community members to quickly express their feelings about a particular post/reply/comment. Reactions will be expressed on a post like so: Click on a reaction that has already been expressed to add yourself to that reaction, or choose the plus icon to choose one of the other reactions.

Is there a way an admin can temporarily mute a member for a designated time period rather than ban them? It would send a clear message of a rule infraction.

If you ban a member when deleting content, it automatically notifies the member that they are being banned. We use this mainly to remove spammers or shut down problem members. Then they respond to the notification to argue. Make the default not to notify OR Add an option for the admin to choose whether to notify.

It would be really convenient to have some "at a glance" shorthand "Permission Notes" in the CP's Forum Topics View showing Who Can View Subject/View Content/Post/Reply --without having to open each one. Invariably we think a permission is set a certain way for something and it's not. Put the shorthand "permission" notes in the wide-open space between the forum's name and the trashcan in a tiny font. ourURL/cp/forum-structure Shorthand examples: View Subj: All; Content: Spec Roles; Reply:...

Looking forward to improved ease of use in the Admin section, and a richer platform with enhanced gui's. Congratulations!

Hi, I’ve gone to my admin console, and as a Super Admin, I am not able to set permissions to create surveys. Create survey is not an option here: http://forums.bicycling.com/cp/survey-settings Thanks, Brad

Thanks Rosemary for the tips. I especially like the Survey idea. Once upon a time, we used them to actually "survey" members about issues/ideas, but now I see that it's also a good idea to provide a point of easy-engagement. Update: We just posted a single survey question and got over a hundred engagements in the first two days One thing we've tried to do is assign "monitoring and response" duties to various members of our admin/moderator group so that every post gets responded to. These...

Hi, Brian: I see the check box when configuring circles at the site level. Of course, all of this is more convoluted for me because we are using groups in an unconventional way. So when I looked at configuring circles at the group level, there is no checkbox for VIewable By Super Admins Only (I thought you'd get a chuckle out of this one). After poking around a bit with a couple of my dummy accounts, it looks like the Viewable By Super Admins Only default applies to group level circles by...

Hi, I'm especially excited about the photo change. Thanks! I did, though, have two questions about the personalized activity stream. I had an activity stream on my home page (Member Milestones and More!), but I don't see a way to personalize it (see screen shot below). Why not? And, two, I don't understand this comment, "In addition, there is a new Personal Activity Stream page available whenever the Activity Stream is enabled for your site." (1) How do you enable the Activity Stream (I...

Add me to the group trying to figure this out. What is different here for a user beyond what they have already had within the notifications area? And where do I find this in my Admin Control panel to set it up, if I want to use it?
  • Blog Post Comment
The biggest difference is portability. Since it's a widget, you can now put the personalized activity stream anywhere you want in the interface. Also, I think it appeals to people who are more used to the "feed" mentality, where you can see a page with "just your stuff" on it. You don't have to turn the personalized activity stream on or off, it should just be there if your users want to see it (if you are using the Activity Stream at all, which you turn on or off in the Structure area of...

It is the same thing, Neil. I used the term "Top Navigation Menu" to differentiate from the side navigation menu used in the admin control panel (and in our QuestionShark module/product). And in the Theme editor, we also use the term "Top Navigation Menu" as well, to differentiate from the Side Navigation Menu. But yes, the Top Navigation Menu is the same as the Community Menu. None of these menus are "breadcrumbs", however.

Hi SLL- It is a new admin control panel section. Go to: Manage > Admin Control Panel > Announcements.

No, I wasn't blocked. I just noticed that in the past if I signed up as a new member under my IP address on my hoop.la site using a different email address as a test member, I could not send a dialog to that test member & I attributed that to having the same IP since I was also the Admin because the system shows the registration IP & the last IP used to login. If the system however is not wired to see that as a conflict, then something else was blocking my ability to receive a dialog...

Hi Richard- There is no setting to prevent it, but you could apply some custom CSS to hide it: div.likeReplyColumn { display:none !important; } (Add that to your Custom CSS field in Display Settings in your admin control panel.)

We love groups and the key to making them work is to really think about how to "architect" the information flow. You want the group to contain the information valuable to the participants, but want to be sure you're not managing duplicate content within the groups; which makes it hard to manage. Let me elaborate: Our groups care for separate partner organizations, all of which have different focuses, products and concerns. The assigned admin of the group keeps their section updated with the...

#3 "request deletion of all of their content by the admin" is a problem for message threads where a user's content is critical to the rest of the user's messages in that thread. They should not have the right to ruin other people's contributions if their post is important or replied to. What I would suggest is that they have the right to remove their NAME from posted content, not the content itself, in order to make their content anonymous. At our 'lesson' content site, we view all posts as...

That item is a "request" by the member for the admin to delete their content. You can refuse to delete their content, if you feel it's within your rights. We're just providing the mechanism that will support compliance with GDPR; what you choose to do with it is your decision as the owner/admin. Unfortunately, when technological solutions are legislated, they don't always think of the consequences for all scenarios. Sadly, online communities were not really given deep consideration when...

Looking forward to learning the new admin layout, Ted. As a long time customer, I'm impressed with how often you not only improve the product but evolve it. I understand what you are changing "graemlins" to "emoticons" but hope it doesn't mean you're planning to someday retire the animated graemlins. I've always enjoyed them, think they're superior to boring emoticons, and consider them to be a bit of both your company's "DNA" and my own online

Imagine a classic truck site if you will... it would be broken down by make and generation... I may be interested in the "1st Gen Ford F Series 1948-1952", but the the Chevrolet C10 Forum, and now it looks like the only option will be to follow all trucks of all models and generations instead of the ones particular to me. Just as @Ted @ Crowdstack erroneously presumed I was a site admin, Crowdstack erroneously presumes they know best for notifications and removes features and flexibility.

I would also like to support this suggestion. I would also add that this same behavior should take place when declining an applicant to our forums. I would actually like to see that any time you perform a negative action, the admin is presented with a choice to notify or not. Thanks for suggesting this @GidgetKat . Great suggestion.

This answer assumes you haven't enabled " Digest Mode ." Subgroups have default new member settings for notifications, so you (the admin) can control the default notification behavior in the subgroup (min, medium, or max). Also, similar to the way it works at the top level, members can tweak their own preferences for each subgroup as well. When the member goes to their profile, under Settings > Notifications, there is a tab devoted to subgroups. All notifications will respect the member's...
