A common approach with footers is to have 4 columns that contain segmented lists of links (product info, company info, etc.), logos, etc. You can still keep your four-column footer, but you'll want to make sure that it is responsive, automatically shifting columns for smaller screens. The overall goal is to have 4 columns on large grids (large screens), 2 columns on medium grids (like tablets), and 1 column on small grids (typically phones). To handle this, create nested grids- an outer grid...
Sometimes I want to reply to a long post and prefer to quote the original post, and then split the quote so I can insert comments. I found a trick for doing it. It's super easy. Reply with Quote Click where you want to split the quoted text. Press Enter once Press Left Arrow once Press Enter three times. This will split the quote and leave space for you to type something inside the split. This makes it easy to reply to a long post like this. Here's a video. Enjoy! Of course, if you know of...
Hello, Crowdstack people! We migrated our community from Facebook at the end of last year and have been looking for creative ways to bring more of our Facebook following to our shiny new Hoop.la space. We came up with an interesting option! We implemented a chatbot for Facebook Messenger that allows us to automate correspondence with our fan base and offer them options based on keyword inputs. It's a great way to steer our Facebook audience into specific areas of the community based on their...
Hey Stack! We know there is a lot of collected wisdom here, and we wanted to open up a space for talking less formally, sharing community management strategies, and helping each other with day-to-day community questions that may or may not be related to Crowdstack itself. Some of you have been doing this for 10+ years! Our team will use this forum to share quick announcements from time to time, sneak peeks, and other info. Feel free to introduce yourself if you like, ask for help with...
Hi, Rosemary. Please consider creating a Members Only discussion forum. It looks like everything we write in this discussion space is public and visible to anyone on the web. I'd like to have conversations with other members - but specifically, members who are running Crowdstack. These conversations would be about using Crowdstack to foster, grow, and maintain our communities, not technical issues. What do you think? Thanks, ST
How to add an image rotator to your home page banner. We will be using a package called Slick. Slick is fully compatible with Crowdstack, can be responsive, and has oodles of fun features, We will be doing a basic setup just to get it installed and working. First, download the files that you need. Go to the Slick website and click Get it now. Click download now and download the zip file to your desktop or downloads folder, whichever you usually use. Once it is downloaded, unzip the zip file.
It would be really convenient to have some "at a glance" shorthand "Permission Notes" in the CP's Forum Topics View showing Who Can View Subject/View Content/Post/Reply --without having to open each one. Invariably we think a permission is set a certain way for something and it's not. Put the shorthand "permission" notes in the wide-open space between the forum's name and the trashcan in a tiny font. ourURL/cp/forum-structure Shorthand examples: View Subj: All; Content: Spec Roles; Reply:...

Hello, Bear with me as I am totally new to this arena and will likely ask some very, very face-palm-worthy questions! I am building a unique health-based community in the hunting and fishing space, and am curious as to what your experiences have been with recruiting beta testers for your communities. My goals are as follows: 1) Get a solid sample of users for feedback regarding site layout and navigation 2) Get a a meaningful of sample traffic for behavior analysis, growth estimates, etc. to...
Are you ladies and gents aware of any tools to accurately and appropriately price advertising spaces on your crowdstack site? I'm sure that there are many ways though custom coding to increase advertising space, but I'm not well versed in such coding... I'm sure the affiliate side of things is much more difficult to quantify, but any ideas for research sources for these topics would be very helpful!
Hi Richard- We emailed everyone about the time frame for each site. Yours will be upgraded today, sometime between 11 AM - 9 PM Eastern Time US. And there will be some downtime for your site when the upgrade happens. Please refer to the email we sent you a couple of weeks ago for specific details for your site. Or, if you have specific questions, please post to our support area here: https://hey.crowdstack.com/support Thanks!
Hi, DBenoit. Thanks for giving us some more information about you and your goals in your profile . From your profile What's your community's big goal? The goal of this community is to foster the exchange of experiences, issues, information, and inspiration toward overcoming personal health challenges in the hunting and fishing communities. Have you found any places (physical or virtual) where like-minded people congregate? I'm picking up on Rosemary's thoughts about brick and mortar...
Thank you guys, all really good information. I will have to digest it! I have the basic structure of the site laid out. It is geared toward fostering exchange and encouraging interaction between members with each subgroup (with the exception of "medical conditions in the field") having it's own introduction and event forum, and a separate discussion forum. There are also chat rooms set up for each subgroup, including each medical condition listed in the "medical conditions in the field." I...
Hi Rosemary, I'd be looking to run ad offerings for paid sponsors/adspace buyers, and not necessarily Google AdSense advertisements. I have to admit, I have not yet reviewed the blog regarding advertising on crowdstack! For the purpose of creating financial projections for my business plan, I need to know how to figure out how much advertising space exists/can be created with the foundation plan (to start) from which I can figure out advertising rates based on traffic rates and industry.
I notice my off the cuff comment got a quote in the Seattle PI. I like the reply- "3 day work weeks? Why would it matter so long as they accomplish the goals their boss set for them. Why would it matter if they did it in 5 days vice 3? So they work quicker, and so long as their superiors are satisfied with the quality then seems to me they earned that 3day work week." A good response and in some ways a workable one. However every business needs staff available at all times so there would...
What if indeed!. Where I work, some valuable staff went from being potential members of a team of excellence to being mere call centre staff in the space of 6 months. People who were proud of their jobs and performance now consider themselves to be mere cogs in a machine, little appreciated and as such, no longer perform at their best and want out. All of this because of one manager who, to quote his own words. "Had his eye on those staff for some time, as they were achievers." He did not...
Hi, Rosemary. Thanks for opening this discussion space. Would you consider adding some public fields to the member profiles here? Some fields I'd like to see: Link to your community http://bosepro.community Date founded: September 2003 Your role in the community: Musician and Community Manager When you get involved in your current role in your community: June 2004 Community Mission Statement: The Bose Portable PA Community is the place for performers to share experiences and talk about how...
Always like to see custom CSS tips, Ted We use all caps for our Category labels in a unique way which your cds would override. See below. While we're on the subject of the Breadcrumb nav bar...notice how the forum topic repeats itself ? Seems redundant. Perhaps tweaking your css to adjust background color of just the Breadcrumb trail to differentiate from the topic title. Or adding some space. Also, would prefer an arrow rather than slash. Slash is old school. Lessons and Resources Directory...
Think of RAID this way: You have a 3 disk drive RAID array. Using your vinyl record example, we'll consider each vinyl record on it's own LP player as a disk drive. Now our records can only be played at single speed, i.e.: audio speed. That's what we call the RPM, or the speed of the spindle. This means for a 6 minute song, if we stored it on one of our records, it would take us 6 minutes to listen to the entire song. It is not possible for us to play it any faster. The limitation of our...
Right, the collaging takes a lot more time though because people can have different combinations of badges. Wanted them all in one field, as the one field already takes up a ton of space in the member profile. Hope you will consider a gallery-style photo upload option here.
