It's been a while since I shared a "fun with Recipes" tip. This one is useful if you have more than one admin or moderator, and want to keep share why you banned (or unbanned) a specific member. To set up this Recipe: 1. Go into your control panel and click Basics > Recipes. 2. Click "Build Custom Recipe." 3. Give it a name, like "Add Member Note When Banning." 4. For Trigger, choose "Member Banned." 5. For Action(s) to Take, choose "Add Member Note." You'll notice that you can insert an...
You already know that you can insert images into your Hoop.la posts by clicking "Add Attachments." But do you know how to refine the SEO value for each image? This quick tip offers some additional options that may help optimize your post (and make it easier to read for accessibility purposes). You'll notice there's an Attachments box at the bottom of the post, which is where you can adjust the Title and Caption if you'd like to do so. The Title field will default to the filename, but it's...
Sometimes you want to bring widget content onto the Home page of your community, in the left column. This tip is the step-by-step on how to accomplish that! If you've done this in your community, please share your own hints for making it work here too. In this example, we're displaying forum topics, but you can do this same method with other widget content. Go to control panel, under “manage widgets.” Click the Embedded Widgets tab. Click “add embedded widget.” Select “UBB Forum” in the...
Hi Rosemary! Is there a way to create a collection for forum posts in this manner so it can be pulled into a widget like you suggest with the blog posts?
Not right now, but as I was writing this post I realized that would be a cool idea...want to go suggest it at https://hey.crowdstack.com/support ? That way we can get it voted up
Hi MyLove- Yes, there is already a suggestion for that here: https://hey.crowdstack.com/s...people-to-follow-you This tip was just for people who might want to hide the Follow Member links entirely in the meantime.

I saw it last week, commented, and voted. I was just participating in the conversation here as well LOL As an Admin, the follow feature IS a useful tool - for us as administrators, and for users who would like to be "in the know" with regard to...
Here's a similar tip that actually renders things more closely to how things looked in Hoop.la 1.0: https://hey.crowdstack.com/support/topic/encase-...
Hi Helela- Yes, the the home page is now 2 columns, though you can create a 3-column custom page to replace it if you like. See the tip here: https://hey.crowdstack.com/support/topic/make-a-...
Great idea, Bradley! I'll convert this to a tip so that it's properly classified Suggestions are generally intended for suggestions to us (Social Strata) about improvements the platform whereas tips for generally intended for community managers and customers using the platform. Thanks! Brian
Actually, this tip had nothing to do with breadcrumbs. It was for the main site navigation menu, which is not the same thing. I'd suggest a new topic if you want consideration for a new breadcrumb options.

I've passed this tip on in another forum. It works fine for me (Firedox,Windows 7) but is not working for others. For instance it doesn't seem to work for ipads.
HI Rosemary, this is a good tip. If I also have some CSS for the other h1 tag on the page - not the one for the title tag - could I still include information for the h1 in the CSS: h1#pageTitle { display:none; } h1 { font-size: 18pt;; font-style: bold; margin-left:8%; } .breadcrumbs {display: none;}
Great idea, Ted! We occasionally have spammers register and then try to promote products that have nothing to do with our site. The posts get reported by other members and we zap 'em, but by using this recipe the posts would never be seen by anyone in the first place. Nice.
Is there a recipe for what we deal with? I have posting from email on. Our forum email gets heaps of spam. Hoop.la treats each spam email like a new member trying to register. The post is in the moderation queue so at least nobody sees the spam. But I wish that we could allow "posting via email" but auto decline any registration that appears to come from a first email. Any recipe for that? That would save me daily time in manually declining obvious spammers. Thanks.
Hi Deb- Your scenario is not supported in that we would need to have a condition that checks to see if the content is submitted by email. I think that is a great idea, though, so we will consider adding that for a future release. Once we support that, you can just create a 'moderate content' recipe and set a condition for content posted by email. You may want to post this as an idea in our support site , if you want to be notified when that is added a feature.
I knew, I knew. Just saying that now that Hoop2 has forced ALL of us in coach into the cockpit, maybe our plan should include it. Other than that, how'd you like my fake widget/3 column tip Mr Lincoln?
Well heck Tracey, I guess I accomplished two things at once...new tip and a small bug uncovered. I'll alert the proper authorities and let you know when it's cleared up. Thanks for letting me know!
Don't forget the email theme too @Rich Melvin so that the avatars don't look oddly different in emails than they do on the forums. That's the second part of the tip, and will give your community a more finished look. But, well done!
Third link down under Design in your control panel. The last paragraph of this tip describes what to do there to make the avatars in emails that are sent out match the site.
Thanks for this tip, Rosemary. The last time I checked, Pinterest also uses the "Title " info for what shows up as the description on a pin. It would be nice to have an easier way (other than accessing the HTML code) to add a data-pin-description. (Sheesh. Your customers are always wanting more!)
Neil and Carol, I can't thank you both enough for commenting and revealing to me that this tip was half-baked! I've completely redone it, and guess what? You already can edit the Title and the Alt tags without going into the code.
Thanks for the clarification. I would suggest adjusting the word "Title" in the interface to "Title and Alt Tag" because "alt tag" is common web parlance, especially in SEO practice, and is an important thing to do (provide an alt tag).
When you block a person, they can no longer invite you to a private message or post to your profile wall. Replies and comments they make will be collapsed/hidden by default. Finally, you'll never receive email notifications about content they create or likes they designate for your content.
Note: if you proceed, you will no longer be following .
