Minor observation. Forum topics listing pages don't pick up formatting used on replies such as pale text color used to hide spoilers. Assuming that the default of the latest 3 replies is used, this can be dealt with by posting dummy replies after the reply which has used the formatting. I'll demonstrate this by posting such a reply on this topic. The Discussion listing page will show the text that I've formatted in the following reply. I will, once this has been approved.

Hey everyone- We've made a couple of changes to the way that our customer support system works. 1. All customer support tickets are now always private. That means that only the person that created the ticket and our support staff can see each ticket. This way, no one ever has to worry about private details about their sites being made visible to the world. 2. Because those customer support tickets are always private now, we disabled the "suggestions" option in the Customer Support area.

Would it be possible for you to add a Popup Action in the Automation Rules? This could be handy in many situations: Acknowledging a posting milestone (a member's 100th post, his 500th post, etc.) These would be a good opportunity to build member pride and loyalty via a "Congratulations!" popup. Notices on New Content about threads being started in the correct sub-forum. The setup should allow for us to author different popups for different purposes.

We are trying to bring a bit more organization to our various model train forums. We are experiencing a lot of threads started in the wrong forums. One of our members made a good suggestion I want to run by you. Currently the RECENT POSTS widget displays the thread title and the timestamp of the latest post to the thread. It does not display the specific forum where the thread is posted. Can that be added to the listings? It could look like this: The red text is the name of the forum where...

It would be really convenient to have some "at a glance" shorthand "Permission Notes" in the CP's Forum Topics View showing Who Can View Subject/View Content/Post/Reply --without having to open each one. Invariably we think a permission is set a certain way for something and it's not. Put the shorthand "permission" notes in the wide-open space between the forum's name and the trashcan in a tiny font. ourURL/cp/forum-structure Shorthand examples: View Subj: All; Content: Spec Roles; Reply:...

I'm suggesting that there should be a way to indicate to a member if has already posted in a specific thread. Some of the threads on our forum have very long legs. Many are several years old, but remain active with new ideas and photos posted in the threads daily. The record-holder is THIS THREAD which was started in January 2013 and is now 987 pages long! It still has new content posted in it every day. Threads that grow beyond a few pages become very difficult to search. If a member could...

Hi Rosemary, Thanks for the COPPA update. Can you call out the cavalry on the eve question shark forum? There are a bunch of us whose entire websites and forums have been down for an hour without response from social strata. Thanks so much.

LOL thanks Rexi! You guys already have some mandates about paid leave time anyway, right? I hadn't heard about Best Buy's recruiting concept regarding Twitter. Sounds like something that might have been a good idea to help evaluate whether the candidate is "social" or not, but that's kind of a random metric to pluck out of thin air. With all of the auto-followers and schemes out there, number of Twitter followers is too easy to game. If I wanted to hire "socially engaged" employees (and I...

Excellent points and great thoughts to consider before starting an online community. An addition to 1: How do my forum users define success, and is this congruent with my definition? What is their baseline for success, and what factors will cause them to consider the community a failure?

Useful beginners tips Rosemary. I can relate a little of my own experience here if you don't mind. ( notice the compliment and the almost apologetic way of stepping in Groupee was the first Bloggers site I had ever joined with confidence. It was the newness of the Social network on offer that gave me a feeling of belonging. Prior to that I could not "break the ice" anywhere else. I think blogging is easier than joining a forum. Unless the forum is very specific in it's nature. In a blog you...

Folks, is anyone in the Crowdstack community using the "blog" feature to deliver a digital magazine? If so, how did you set that up and implement it? We have used Crowdstack for years to deliver a private discussion forum to our 6,000 club members. We already produce a bi-monthly printed magazine. We would like to: Copy and paste the text and images from the magazine into categorized, dated and tagged posts. Automatically deliver a bimonthly summary of all articles/posts since the previous...

Hello Could you please explain just how the new β€˜multi quote’ function can be used when you wish to quote from a previous page, as well as the current page? This is often the case especially when a new page has only one or two post on it. I know that you can post a quote from a previous page; we need to be able to quote from more than one page. Having the posting page tied to the current page (crazy) prevents me from being able to do this as the first quote selected cannot survive the page...

lot of major updates. very impressive. look forward to accessing the beta site and making an aggressive push to launch my Hoop.la site. I think forum owners are going to see a SIGNIFICANT increase in engagement across their site with the mobile friendly responsive design. That is HUGE! I suspect large community sites using UBB Forum will see an amazing increase in overall utilization. I look forward to being more engaged with Social Strata. This is a high quality update for sure. Congrats.

Ted, I copied and pasted your code and it worked perfectly. Thx. Might you be willing to provide the code for when you are within a forum and its displaying the list of topics? The above code doesn't work on this page and I have no idea how to write the CSS to target this

Hi Yojeffo- Go to the Surveys page and click on the big "Create Survey" button on the top right. Alternatively, you can click on the "Post Content" button (also in the top right) on the "Home" page. There is also a "Create Survey" link as a submenu item In the "Surveys" menu item. It basically works the same way as any other content type in Hoop.la. If you are not seeing these Create Survey buttons/links, it means that you do not have permission to create surveys, which would be a permission...

I and others on our forum started getting these emails. We reported this and were subsequently informed that this was a bug and that it had been dealt with, What I found was that many of the boxes on the notifications page here had been ticked on automatically which is why we started getting the emails.. As a quick fix, go to the notifcations page and untick the email boxes on the follows page and rhe settings page: https://hey.crowdstack.com/member-cp/follows That should stop all emails. If...

Thank you guys, all really good information. I will have to digest it! I have the basic structure of the site laid out. It is geared toward fostering exchange and encouraging interaction between members with each subgroup (with the exception of "medical conditions in the field") having it's own introduction and event forum, and a separate discussion forum. There are also chat rooms set up for each subgroup, including each medical condition listed in the "medical conditions in the field." I...

If we change to the new forum display mode and don't like it, can we change back to legacy mode with no loss of information or data or formatting? Assuming so, but wanted to check before I do anything that might cause me more work. Thanks!

The Sticky at the top of the page feels too large, and you lose the context of the discussion. Suggestion. Instead of this: Continue to display the breadcrumbs like this. That is: Make the breadcrumbs sticky. ST
  • Blog Post Comment
I agree. I used the CSS to suppress the sticky title because it took up too much of the screen, making it hard to follow the content.

Neil, we run banner ads in our Hoopla forum served from an outfit called "Adpeeps.com." When we first made the Hoopla change to https, the banners did not appear. The browser would not display a mix of "secure" and "non-secure" content. All I had to do was go into the Adpeeps code and add the "s" where appropriate and all was OK. Adpeeps now generates code that contains "https" so the problem has solved itself on both ends. External LINKS appeared just fine, even though the link was going to...

@Julie Usher , the Personalized Activity Stream is building as we speak. I would expect it to be completed within 24 hours at most, but I won't be surprised if it's completed overnight tonight. The Personalized Activity Stream is automatically refined based on the user's interests and follows on the site. There aren't any specific toggles for manipulating the personalized version of the Activity Stream aside from the follow functionality that is built in to the community already (following...

Can you let me know when it's done, so I can see how it might be used on the site and announce to member as appropriate. I guess I assumed that is was done because it was announced.

Also, another question to better understand how this feature works. You said "There aren't any specific toggles for manipulating the personalized version of the Activity Stream aside from the follow functionality that is built in to the community already (following the blog, clips, forum topics, members, etc.)." My question is: where can people control what parts of the site or who they follow? It's frankly been so long since I followed parts of the site that I've forgotten. Is it under...

Any member can go to their profile and click "notifications." First they'll see the delivery mechanisms (email or on-site alert), and then they can click the tab for Primary Notifications to see all of the options for following content and activities on the site. They can just check (or uncheck) those boxes to control what they're following. Each member also can set their default following behavior...in their profile, under Personal Settings, there's a section for "Default Notification...

Plance has hit the nail on the head, when he says, "...Now...valuable Topic threads are buried amongst perhaps thousands of Topic Replies...This degradation of categorization is a profound disservice to the functionality and lifeblood of our forum..." Always like to see custom CSS tips, Ted We use all caps for our Category labels in a unique way which your cds would override. See below. While we're on the subject of the Breadcrumb nav bar...notice how the forum topic repeats itself ? Seems redundant. Perhaps tweaking your css to adjust background color of just the Breadcrumb trail to differentiate from the topic title. Or adding some space. Also, would prefer an arrow rather than slash. Slash is old school. Lessons and Resources Directory...
