I cannot imagine having the job of coming up with these swags. Some of the ones I've seen posted here are cool. There was a group of movers that had a ball similar to the one posted on here. Maybe they were trying to say "it's a ball for us to move all your stuff!"

Hi Rosemary! Is there a way to create a collection for forum posts in this manner so it can be pulled into a widget like you suggest with the blog posts?

As a non profit, we use a non profit service similar to paypal called www.networkforgood.org We just post a graphic link. What's the advantage of your PayPal widget over that??

Re: Creating Content is Simpler I am really hoping that you all include in this update a way to move a post to add it as a reply to an existing post. With this "simpler" way of posting, I'm forecasting our users will probably post in the wrong spot. (We've got a lot of possible forums and topics and posts.) -- Carol

Hi Chrissanne, For your notifications, you might want to double check that your "comments/replies" notifications are turned on, in addition to the primary content ones. To gather up your latest content for a weekly update, the easiest way would be to go to your control panel, under Manage Content, and do a search by date. Make sure that you tick the box that says "include comments/replies." That will give you a list that you can work with. Then for the email, you can incorporate quotes with...

Love this! It saves me the time it takes to explain to guests, how to reply to a post (e.g., at top right click join etc.). Thank you! ST

Okay, so basically you're saying I can't see/use any of this functionality now, is that right? If so, when do you think it will be rolled out to me/others in my camp? Also, can individual members personalize their own streams? And would they do it from the link you just gave me, or from their member profiles? I don't have that link in view on my site, except via linking through on the widget on one page, because it didn't seem too useful. But, if members can each alter it to personal taste,...

BTW, I'm asking the timing question to know when to alert people to these changes. If this one is way off, then I'll announce the photo one now. If this one is coming soon, I'll wait and announce them together.

The biggest difference is portability. Since it's a widget, you can now put the personalized activity stream anywhere you want in the interface. Also, I think it appeals to people who are more used to the "feed" mentality, where you can see a page with "just your stuff" on it. You don't have to turn the personalized activity stream on or off, it should just be there if your users want to see it (if you are using the Activity Stream at all, which you turn on or off in the Structure area of...

Lighting a candle for the dearly departed Activity Stream There are certain things about you that will be missed: 1. You announced New Premium Members and Newly Registered Members. You were a not-so-subtle encouragement to get others to "join in" too. You gave instant recognition to newbies. You gave community leaders a convenient place to see and follow up on newbies listed there. ( Where do they go now? ) You were a visible way to generate a sense of "community" -- which is something that...

@Rich Melvin While I appreciate your appreciation, Rich, my reading of various posts from Julie, Plance, and you at OGR suggest that y'all are using the A.S. differently than we do (used to). Seems like you folks want some of the A.S.' functionality on User Profile Pages, whereas we liked it as a look-see widget on our homepage and embedded on a custom page. My eulogy doesn't mention your User Profile functions. That said, yes, I would love to see the "activity" publicly visible...

On a related note, it would be great if the Recent Post widget displayed a link to "See More Recent Posts" (than what you set to appear in the widget). The old display posts/replies feature had a "display all" link and it was very handy. Currently, you preset the widget to display a fixed number of posts (up to 50), but invariably our leaders are looking for something that posted "a few days ago" and it has scrolled off the "show last 10" setting we have for that widget. (Yes, we could...

We have hundreds of groups in our website and I want to create a custom widget that I can share/embed with all of them. How do I do that?
  • Topic Reply
Hi @Valerie Krist , Almost the exact same way that Rosemary described above. For step 3 select Groups -> Group Directory. The widget defaults to 15 groups but will show up to maximum of 50, and it will display a link to see the rest.

Thank you Ted. Is there a CSS code that I can use for the background of the widget to be a color instead of the background image of the theme? If so, would this be placed in the customize widget or the theme?
  • Topic Reply
You can already set the background color of the overall widget in your theme... in the Widgets section of the theme editor. Thus, no CSS required.

Hi, Thanks for the explanation. It still doesn't help. In what way do I write the font size??? 12px? 12 pt?? I have set my font size in a widget which has my welcome pagagraph, and no matter what I do to it, it is displaying what I would call 2pt type. Please HELP!!!!!

Great blog Don... if I understood any of it! But to make it something I might understand then. A RAID is like an old vinyl record? You might only play one track a lot and whilst the part you play disintegrates, the rest of the record would perform fine if you could be bothered to move the tracks on? So your SSD drive spreads the wear and tear out across the disc without seemingly taking any time to reach or store stuff and thus making all tracks available at one click? Thereby extending the...

Hi Jon, This release went out to all Hoop.la, UBB Forum, and QuestionShark customers. We've had numerous requests for slideshow functionality over the past year or so (I don't have an exact figure to give). We support slideshows now via the Clips widget Ted mentioned as well as on the Clips page itself. Hope that helps, Brian

Always appreciate your releases but disappointed you've stopped giving them creative names. We implemented your suggested CSS code to suppress the new Post Content button. Our Reason: at our site it would likely invite too many improperly located or duplicate topics. I do like the idea of encouraging posts, however, so I'm wondering about a widget that features the current "hot topic" (as determined by activity/views/whatever) and has a 'reply now' button to catch interest on the home page.

Thanks for the resources and links. The "planner" offers some good reminders. My Wish: That CrowdHoop would incorporate CM tools and reminders/metrics into the actual interface (rather than on paper). Seems like a logical development since it's the community interface where we spend our time. I'd start with optioning the "calendar" module into a "planning and scheduling tool" for community managers and their team (and not open to everyone). Each day/week/month could incorporate certain...

Ok, interesting idea....I've got a couple of possible solutions. 1. Create a "Best of" forum (and don't allow regular members to post or comment in it). Move your "best" topics to that forum. Create a Content Block for that forum and put it on the home page. 2. Create a Custom HTML content block (one time) that contains 3-5 bullet point links and nicely formatted text paragraph (or sentence). On a weekly, monthly, or other basis, just replace the links and paragraphs with the new topics you...

Super cool idea John! Hopefully someone will chime in here...offhand, I like the way that @Paul Heymont at TravelGumbo incorporates the blog with their forums, maybe he could share a little insight. You can definitely copy in text and images to your blog, and organize the posts into "collections" with tags and dates. You can also store your PDFs in the Resource area, and those PDFs are indexed inside Crowdstack's search function (all of the text inside the PDFs). Crowdstack's notifications...

You could temporarily move them to a Role that doesn't have posting permissions (or create such a Role for this purpose).

Hi, Derek! In your control panel, go to Navigation Menus (under Design). On the right you'll see a link marked "Add Menu Item". If you click that, you'll get a popup, and you can add your title and the URL for the page itself (which you can get on the actual custom page). Once you've added them, you can move your menu items around by using the arrows on the left. Let me know if you have any questions! Lori
