    I believe that the level of engagement could be measured by quality vs quantity. For instance, if someone posts a quality and constructive question that receives feedback and/or leads to repetitive conversion. This would indicate that the creator most likely has taken time, thought carefully,and clearly has made an impression on others. I would use this similar formula to measure performance.

    Hi, Mother-of-Many. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I agree. In some organizations, decisions are driven by metrics (quantity). It takes a different kind of insight to discern quality. I would like to see Crowdstack give us tools to do sentiment analysis . As a start, I'd like to know how I can use the Community Rank to measure engagement.     Right @Aliza Rosen the ability to comment on blogs is enabled/disabled per blog post right now. However, a workaround would be to use CSS to suppress the comment box, etc. on blogs. If you need help with that, just let me know!

    Can I get an "amen"?! I quit Facebook quite a while ago, mostly over privacy concerns. But, I was definitely spending more time online in less meaningful ways, and who has time to spend doing meaningless things?

    First, let's start with the irony - I just used my Facebook account to post this comment. Its true, FB can and does suck in a lot of ways. It also creates an opportunity for a lot of fake and meaningless interaction. However, it does serve at least one purpose for me in that it does allow me to keep 'light' contact with a lot of people who don't live in my area.     Thanks for your comments, James. I don't disagree that Facebook has potential to serve a purpose for keeping in touch. My experience has been that while it has that potential, it doesn't typically play out in practice. I typically have used email/IM for those types of "light" contact, instead. I think that Hoop.la has a lot of the tools that are needed to enable networking and community in an effective way.     I agree that running a startup is a lot of work. It does take sleepless nights. Whether you are running an online shopping site, or working on a local business, it requires lots of overtime. For those of you were starting on this venture, good luck!

    No need to manually copy and paste to save your existing discussions, you can install this free Facebook app "Forum for Pages": www.facebook.com/202980683107053 Once installed, click the button "Import existing discussions", this will add all your discussions to the new discussions board.

    That was a generous offer in my email Rosemary, of "one of the coolest, most challenging jobs on earth".(In the email that was sent to everyone who has a watch on Social Strata I would guess). Not sure I can fit in the post of 'community manager' in as I am a full time grandparent these days and looking after my kids is far and away more preferable than a similar job on the UK Big Brother forum..........     Thanks JC, we'll look into that bug... Little did I know that the way I chose to start this blog entry would confuse so many people! Sorry about that... We're also dealing with a possible notification glitch that sent email notices to a much larger group than it should have.     This gave me a lot to think about - thanks Rosemary! My problem is that I am looking for something specific.... farmers and gardeners that are from Vermont.     LOL, but breakfast is usually something "instant." It makes everything so much more fun when we get to know our customers and they become friends. Makes me want to get up at 6am When are you coming back to visit us in the States again? I use my email inbox as a "to do" list. First run through and delete all of the spam (even with filtering, there's a lot). Then respond to the quick items, then go top to bottom for the longer responses. Then read the blogs, deleting the ones I don't need to...

    Well visiting America/Seattle depends on Elizabeths recovery from this Pemphigoid condition. It is so sensitive that we fear a prolonged flight may antagonise it. However people are supposed to recover so we will see. We would love to Amtrak it from Chicago to Seattle have va few days with you lot again then go back via a different route. Probably expensive but worth it.

    I think there's still a place for a little bit of Stalin. Ok, maybe not in the arena of criticism, and some controversy is always going to happen. I've had to perform one execution as a moderator and I've never regretted the decision, though with different tools and more experience I might have been able to find a better way (though I still doubt it). Other than that, I guess I'm bits of all of these - if I had to pick one, I'm more of a border collie, but without the idea of the "correct"...
