Was that your 15 minutes of fame or are you going to be working on a bit more controversy to keep the momentum going? Looking forward to your next release.
Rosemary ... may I just say how I love these blogs. I tune in regularly to read them. After reading of your new leave policy I googled you and watched one of your TV interviews (can't remember which one). May I make a serious suggestion? Get a new photo for your avi! You looked gorgeous on TV, I don't think your photo does you justice! Keep up the good work
I don't understand how this works with medical leave. What if someone has a long illness -- are they still getting paid their usual wages/salary? In my company, we believe we are renting 40 hours per week of our employees' time. We do not expect them to work longer hours to do their jobs. We would never put them in the position of competing against each other for who can work the longest hours. We have single mothers and older people on our payroll. We have no desire to pit these people...
Reference: Sounds like a great system for o/c overachievers who have no other lives. Not at ALL true, donnarae! Ever since I've started working at Social Strata (10 years in May), I've heard about the necessary balance of life and work, and I've been encouraged to live outside of work. All of us have lives, some of us have small children and some have important parts to play in others' lives. There are no overachievers with no other lives here! This CAN work. In ANY company. The key is...
I hope it works -- I think it is a great way to treat employees. I don't think our bunch is ready for it. Too many little squabbles and turf wars going on. How do you handle abuse? At some point, if it is abused, some kind of action has to occur. I know that you have exceptional employees and don't anticipate any problems, but do you have a plan for what to do if someone does abuse it? Thanks, Donna

Useful beginners tips Rosemary. I can relate a little of my own experience here if you don't mind. ( notice the compliment and the almost apologetic way of stepping in Groupee was the first Bloggers site I had ever joined with confidence. It was the newness of the Social network on offer that gave me a feeling of belonging. Prior to that I could not "break the ice" anywhere else. I think blogging is easier than joining a forum. Unless the forum is very specific in it's nature. In a blog you...
I completely agree with the post. Creating the community online is merely a way to HOST people in coming together. It allows connection,(eventually mine will also have chat as most of my members are either deaf or interpreters) People long for connection and having an online community that facilitates a place to meet gives deaf people a sense of belonging that at times they do not have if they live alone or have very little connection with people who are able to communicate with them. Thank...
I was very pleased to find this site.I wanted to thank you for this great read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you post. Thanks for your blog
Such a nice little well-written jab at the drug Facebook and Twitter are injecting into their users. The many Hoop.la, UBB, and Eve communities, as well as Narrative are examples of how user to user interaction through the web should be done.
It has been a wild and fun ride that I still don't see an end in sight for both Social Strata and Mindraven. Great bunches of people to work and have fun with on both the hosted and downloadable divisions.
Well, James, if I *did* talk to her when we're alone, I wouldn't necessarily tell you. This plant is as old as my great-uncle. The story is that my great-uncle's grandmother sent a clipping from HER Christmas cactus to her daughter, on the day he was born. She rooted it, and this is the result. When my great-aunt died, my great-uncle had my parents drive it home from Coeur d'Alene (that was about 13 years ago, I think), and I've had her ever since. I'm the one who named her.
I agree Rosemary, we need to up the "panache" levels in everything we do! It is so obvious when we meet someone who does what they do - with panache. What a difference panache makes and what a fabulous word "panache" is!
Happy Valentine's Day today? A little premature perhaps...but that's men for you. Having said that I can hardly complain ... in Wales we have it a little on the early side too. 25th January - St Dwynwen's Day. http://www.historic-uk.com/His...istory/StDwynwen.htm But then 14th February is stolen from an old Roman ceremony - Lupercalia. http://www.meridiangraphics.net/lupercalia.htm Sounds like a lot more fun than a dozen red roses frankly.
Reference: panache I looked the word up on the internet and ended up in 2 womens underwear sites... I'm confused.... No make that 3!! I better stop there before Liz looks over my shoulder
I just got back in after being out all week, and the guys clearing the parking lot, at work, of the foot of snow that we got, dumped a tractor loader bucket or two in the bed of my pickup. I grabbed a shovel and put it back on the sidewalk. There's my panache for the week.
Thanks Rosemary even that one that a link to Panache Lingerie apparently love is in the air.. Looks like a bra to me I was in the local newsagents today with Elizabeth. The chap tried to sell me a single rose for £6 I refused.... I do not have Panache
HI. I work on ACEs Connection and i had tried to log into the Beta site to review the new set up but it seems to not recognize my user name (which is the name that I have in my ACEs Connection Network account). Not sure what to do?
Can I get an "amen"?! I quit Facebook quite a while ago, mostly over privacy concerns. But, I was definitely spending more time online in less meaningful ways, and who has time to spend doing meaningless things?
First, let's start with the irony - I just used my Facebook account to post this comment. Its true, FB can and does suck in a lot of ways. It also creates an opportunity for a lot of fake and meaningless interaction. However, it does serve at least one purpose for me in that it does allow me to keep 'light' contact with a lot of people who don't live in my area. Friends from my hometown and friends who have moved. It allows me to keep a sort of dialog open that allows us to easily pickup...
Thanks for your comments, James. I don't disagree that Facebook has potential to serve a purpose for keeping in touch. My experience has been that while it has that potential, it doesn't typically play out in practice. I typically have used email/IM for those types of "light" contact, instead. I think that Hoop.la has a lot of the tools that are needed to enable networking and community in an effective way. If you haven't already, I'd recommend you check it out (you can set up a free site to...
I love how they use circles. It is a great way to organize your friends by their relationship. So many time with Facebook, you cannot specify how they are related to you. Hopefully we will see a bit more iphone application development in this realm. The app that Google has out now could use a bit more polishing. What do you guys think?
I totally agree with each point of Rosemary. Limited knowledge of things can spoil us. It is better to read widely and try to find out the best you want from it. Our own analysis of things will help us to take a final decision. I'm planning to start a social website on a vCloud Connector server, could you please suggest the positives. Different writers put forward different opinion; some prefers to write only positive but some are totally opposite and only born to think negative. It creates...
