Now that our new iPhone app has been "in the wild" for a few weeks, I'm here with the report. It's totally cool.
Internally, we're already using the free iPhone app branded for our own GaGaJoyJoy Hoop.la (a community of UK TV fans). Having the app has allowed me to stay on top of new posts while commuting (riding, not driving) and help troubleshoot issues when I'm away from my laptop. This particular community hasn't started using it yet, but you can also participate in chat events via the app.
Another benefit to having your own branded iPhone app is the visibility within the App Store---you might just entice some new community members through your app's presence in the store.
How to Activate
Each Gold level Hoop.la online community ($99/month) includes the ability to have your own iPhone app, no developer time needed. All you have to do is click the
“activate” button in the control panel, and you will receive an email from Social Strata requesting some minimal information and graphic images.
We will then brand the app for you, and submit it to the iTunes store for approval. Note that our custom branding and Apple’s approval process can take up to one month. We will notify you when the app has been approved, and your members will then see a “Get our iPhone App” link at the top left corner of your Hoop.la community.
