Hi Yojeffo- Go to the Surveys page and click on the big "Create Survey" button on the top right. Alternatively, you can click on the "Post Content" button (also in the top right) on the "Home" page. There is also a "Create Survey" link as a submenu item In the "Surveys" menu item. It basically works the same way as any other content type in Hoop.la. If you are not seeing these Create Survey buttons/links, it means that you do not have permission to create surveys, which would be a permission...

If we change to the new forum display mode and don't like it, can we change back to legacy mode with no loss of information or data or formatting? Assuming so, but wanted to check before I do anything that might cause me more work. Thanks!

The Sticky at the top of the page feels too large, and you lose the context of the discussion. Suggestion. Instead of this: Continue to display the breadcrumbs like this. That is: Make the breadcrumbs sticky. ST

I agree. I used the CSS to suppress the sticky title because it took up too much of the screen, making it hard to follow the content.

Hi Julie, Would you mind sharing the CSS you used for this. It will save me a lot of time. Thanks, ST

I don't see these (bold above). Here's what I see. Here are my home page settings. ST

Neil, we run banner ads in our Hoopla forum served from an outfit called "Adpeeps.com." When we first made the Hoopla change to https, the banners did not appear. The browser would not display a mix of "secure" and "non-secure" content. All I had to do was go into the Adpeeps code and add the "s" where appropriate and all was OK. Adpeeps now generates code that contains "https" so the problem has solved itself on both ends. External LINKS appeared just fine, even though the link was going to...

@Julie Usher , the Personalized Activity Stream is building as we speak. I would expect it to be completed within 24 hours at most, but I won't be surprised if it's completed overnight tonight. The Personalized Activity Stream is automatically refined based on the user's interests and follows on the site. There aren't any specific toggles for manipulating the personalized version of the Activity Stream aside from the follow functionality that is built in to the community already (following...

Can you let me know when it's done, so I can see how it might be used on the site and announce to member as appropriate. I guess I assumed that is was done because it was announced.

Also, another question to better understand how this feature works. You said "There aren't any specific toggles for manipulating the personalized version of the Activity Stream aside from the follow functionality that is built in to the community already (following the blog, clips, forum topics, members, etc.)." My question is: where can people control what parts of the site or who they follow? It's frankly been so long since I followed parts of the site that I've forgotten. Is it under...

Any member can go to their profile and click "notifications." First they'll see the delivery mechanisms (email or on-site alert), and then they can click the tab for Primary Notifications to see all of the options for following content and activities on the site. They can just check (or uncheck) those boxes to control what they're following. Each member also can set their default following behavior...in their profile, under Personal Settings, there's a section for "Default Notification...

We have a support forum for our users. Unfortunately, some of the very people who need support seem to resist posting, or are confused by important things like remembering to "follow" their topic to get notification of responses. We also use graphic how-to's -knowing many don't read carefully. Our #1 support request is to "unsubscribe" or cancel memberships. We really wish Hoopla would allow users to unsubscribe/cancel themselves. Automation of that process would be more support-friendly.

No need to manually copy and paste to save your existing discussions, you can install this free Facebook app "Forum for Pages": www.facebook.com/202980683107053 Once installed, click the button "Import existing discussions", this will add all your discussions to the new discussions board.

That was a generous offer in my email Rosemary, of "one of the coolest, most challenging jobs on earth".(In the email that was sent to everyone who has a watch on Social Strata I would guess). Not sure I can fit in the post of 'community manager' in as I am a full time grandparent these days and looking after my kids is far and away more preferable than a similar job on the UK Big Brother forum.......... Good luck though

Hey Ted, looking forward to playing with recipes. Do you know if the release would have inadvertently impacted our permissions groups. We have one group who lost the ability to edit member posts in the forum they were assigned to. I had to go back and give them the Moderate Content permission. Thanks.

Hi Augie, The Recipes release shouldn't have impacted your forum permissions in any way. Is it possible that another administrator made the permission change? Regards, Brian
  • Blog Post Comment
Thanks Brian, will do. Really interested in the possibilities of recipes. The company I work for has a home-grown forum system that isn't doing well so I took them on a tour of the Hoop.la site I manage and they were very impressed. IMO it would be better to migrate to a Hoop.la community than continue down the path of the DIY approach. I'll submit a support topic to discuss the trigger for the scenario we've been talking about.

Hi Jon, This release went out to all Hoop.la, UBB Forum, and QuestionShark customers. We've had numerous requests for slideshow functionality over the past year or so (I don't have an exact figure to give). We support slideshows now via the Clips widget Ted mentioned as well as on the Clips page itself. Hope that helps, Brian

Oh phooey... from the way #1 sounded, it seemed like it was on a per forum basis... that would be REALLY helpful for what I do!

I'm delighted the auto-close feature has arrived as it's something that's been at the top of the wish list for some time. However, I think there's a problem. I enabled auto-close for posts with no activity after 30 days. what has happened is that it has closed every single topic in the forum. Unchecking the box has not re-opened them. So... I now have many hours of going through and opening up each thread manually. Not very happy about that. Is this a bug and is there a way of opening up the...

Community building is a challenge for many...whether you're a blogger or apparently a chicken farmerette. It's been suggested to me I'm a natural at building community; not exactly sure why...perhaps the natural ebullience? HEH. Had to use that word. I like this post. Short and to the point.

I know this is old but it caught my eye (well both of them actually. My take on this is, you do indeed tread a fine line between creating the right kind of platform for a community. Engaging them in the creation is one way. Allowing people to have their input is very good but everyone has a different opinion so you have to start with an adaptive base. The big question is how do you get them in the first place? Of the millions of people out there who do you reach out to with your invites. I...

Is there a recipe for what we deal with? I have posting from email on. Our forum email gets heaps of spam. Hoop.la treats each spam email like a new member trying to register. The post is in the moderation queue so at least nobody sees the spam. But I wish that we could allow "posting via email" but auto decline any registration that appears to come from a first email. Any recipe for that? That would save me daily time in manually declining obvious spammers. Thanks.

I have not been here for a couple of years. Someone else I have given our Forums to. I am also wondering if there is a way to switch back to the older style. https://guyana.crowdstack.io/home Where each topic was listed line by line for each sub forum. Rather than having it the way it is now. Thanks
