Ever wonder what things look like behind the scenes at Social Strata?  This blog will offer periodic glimpses into our colorful (and sometimes weird) office life.

Today's highlight is our oldest employee (no, it's not me)...Audrey the Christmas Cactus.  She belongs to Lori Hope, and I'm told she's approximately 82 years old.  We're enjoying some beautiful blooms on her now, but usually she just sits quietly observing the goings-on.  Lori inherited this plant from an Uncle (Lori, feel free to embellish the story here), and it's a weighty responsibility.  Audrey is named for the plant in "Little Shop of Horrors," but I've never seen her eat anyone...even when James visited.

Well, James, if I *did* talk to her when we're alone, I wouldn't necessarily tell you.

This plant is as old as my great-uncle.  The story is that my great-uncle's grandmother sent a clipping from HER Christmas cactus to her daughter, on the day he was born.  She rooted it, and this is the result.  When my great-aunt died, my great-uncle had my parents drive it home from Coeur d'Alene (that was about 13 years ago, I think), and I've had her ever since.  I'm the one who named her.
