For years, I have toted around a FranklinCovey Classic size planner. It's about the weight of a small phone book, with notes, business cards, and tabs tucked into various pockets. In this planner is everything schedule-related, for home, kids' school, family events, and work stuff. I've always liked using the 7 Habits style refills, because every morning when I open it, I get an inspiring quote or reminder of how I should be focusing. Like a velveteen rabbit, it has become worn and comfy, but a bit disreputable looking. And now, when I bust it out during a meeting, I feel a tad Luddite.
Then, this weekend, an earthshattering event happened. I got an iPad. I checked out the gorgeous calendar interface, and had the first "spider-sense" tingle that I might, just maybe, be willing to go all-digital. The last time I tried that was when I got my old Palm VII, which had FranklinCovey integration (the Palm was promptly stolen, and in my fragile state I reverted to paper).
Other calendar planets orbiting my Franklin planner include my digital house calendar (shared with Ted), my digital work calendar (shared with all staff), and the big paper house calendar hanging in the kitchen (the one with all of the stickers on it). I'm like a calendar Sybil, with multiple personalities that need to be integrated.
So today, I'm launching my venture...I'm going to try weaning off the Franklin planner (it would make a nice doorstop), and then integrating the other side-calendars. Sadly, FranklinCovey has lagged way behind technology-wise, and they're not really Mac-friendly, so I'm a wandering nomad in search of the perfect time management app that will work with my MacBook and iPad...some have pointed me toward Things or Evernote, but I'd like something more calendar-oriented.
I'll keep a running commentary here, and if anyone has any favorite apps that can help me go digital, please post here!
