Yikes - what the heck happened?! I am no longer seeing content streams on member profiles. This is a HUGE issue, as our members routinely review other members' "portfolios" to see the work that they've contributed to the site over time. I also have many hundreds (thousands) of blog posts that refer to members' content streams. I did not see this listed as any of the recent "upgrades" or I would have shouted out (objected) sooner.

I am sincerely hoping this info is now just stored elsewhere and you can direct me to it, and, if it's not, that is can be recovered. The value of my site is seriously diminished w/o members having access to their past posts . . .

See below - "activity" stream button has vaporized . . .

I now have thousand of links like this that are broken throughout the site. I refer to all of my contributors' "portfoilios" (content streams) in their bylines whenever they post. Thousands of pages and blog posts are affected.

Example broken link: https://cookieconnection.julia...tivity?group=CONTENT

Ugh . . . another change that has huge negative ripple effects . . . let's hope it can be restored to what it was.

JU

Hi @Julie Usher,

You're right; the activity stream is now gone, and this includes the member profile Activity tab. We previously announced this in this topic, and then included mention of it in the release notes for today's release.

Every member profile page also includes a link to Display All Posts by a member, which is a pretty close replacement for the Activity tab. It will include all posts the member has made. The only exclusions are the actions such as reacting to posts, following members, etc.

One thing we'll do to make the transition easier is set up a redirect from the old Activity tab in the member profile to the Display All Posts page, which should achieve essentially the same effect you're looking for.

Hope this is helpful!

Brian

Yes, I realize that all past posts can be seen under "Display Posts" to the right, but this area jumbles together absolutely everything. My members come to my site to see cookie photos and to look at specific members' photos. I can't begin to tell you how horribly this change diminishes the value of my site. I hope you will make reparations by reinstating this feature on my site. I'm not sure I can continue to operate this site without easy access to the photos members have posted in the past. I use them to determine which artists to feature, to spotlight certain work on the site, to choose featured cookie art for the site banner, on and on . . . feeling very much like the rug has been pulled out from underneath the site . . .

JU

I am not getting these notifications - despite having notifications set up to be alerted to blog posts, etc. I didn't even know there was an update today,

Having everthing jumbled together in "Display Posts" is NOT a close replacement AT ALL. People want to see people's photos in one place. Can you please at least put a filter on "Display posts" so that one can pull up ones clips?

Devastated . . .

JU

The Activity tab won't be coming back in its previous form, though we do have an idea in the hopper for a future release to add a Content Stream to the member profile, which may be just what you're looking for. In the meantime, the Display All Posts option is your best bet. Note that you can also subsequently filter the search results on the search results page to filter by content type, include/exclude comments/replies, and add any other search criteria.

Brian Lenz

According to that link you just gave me, the content stream was supposed to remain intact for V1 sites like mine. But I don't just see new content there. I see every comment I've ever made. Same thing on another profile. If it can just include new content that would be acceptable, but it is not doing what you said.

Also, I need help making sure my notifications are on to receive your updates. I have reset them several times, and I am once again not getting them so I am ALWAYS surprised by these updates.

JU

What you're referring to is the Content Stream widget for v1 sites. Any old Activity Stream widgets on v1 sites such as yours were automatically converted into Content Stream widgets. These are displayed on the sidebar of pages on your site. The Content Stream Content Block is still an option, as well (for the home page). But both the Content Stream widget and content block will aggregate all content across the site, so it's not member-specific.

For notifications here on Hey Stack!, you can opt for a Daily or Weekly digest in your notifications:

https://hey.crowdstack.com/account/follows

If you'd like to be notified instantly of every post on the site, you'll need to enable this option:

Just be aware that this will include all blog posts, discussion topics, and support topics (that are public).

Hope that helps,

Brian

Yes, a content stream on the member profile is critical to my site - having to go through mutliple steps to find members' photo content will take a ton of explanation (hard to tell my members how this is an "upgrade') and be a huge PITA.

Also, when can this be done: "One thing we'll do to make the transition easier is set up a redirect from the old Activity tab in the member profile to the Display All Posts page, which should achieve essentially the same effect you're looking for." As I mentioned, I now have thousands of links to members' activity (content sub-streams) which are now broken . . .

How did I miss Ted's "Death to the Activity Stream" blog posted on Oct 1??? ā˜¹ļø (I rarely miss reading these things. Didn't even miss Rosemary's YouTube updates.)

Well... the "interactions" isn't a bad widget. (But its layout could use some better formatting, hint hint.)

What is the criteria for what gets showed in the CONTENT STREAM Widget?

Hey @neil Ted's post on deprecating the Activity stream is actually a discussion topic, not a blog post. If you're subscribed to the digest only (either daily or weekly), then you would need to look in the digest to find it. Alternatively, you could follow the steps above that I gave Julie if you want to be notified instantly of everything on the site (though that could potentially include a lot more posts).

What is the criteria for what gets showed in the CONTENT STREAM Widget?

The Content Stream widget includes all content on the Crowdstack that is viewable by the current member. So that will span all content types and only include primary posts (i.e. not comments/replies).

Hope that helps!

We are looking to have that set up today.

Can you let me know here as soon as this is done so I can check it. I'd also like to head off the broken links before more members start finding them.

So where can I vote up this idea: "idea in the hopper for a future release to add a Content Stream to the member profile"?

Another argument for reinstating this content stream is that members now no have no easy way to manage content they previously posted to the site. Should they want to delete a past photo, it's not at all intuitive how to do so. I am in the middle of writing the post to explain to members where they can currently find their content - it's very complicated, not intuitive, and something they're going to easily forget - and then they'll come asking me, thus sucking up more time. I seriously hope your next release includes this stream again . . .

Hi @Julie Usher,

Can you let me know here as soon as this is done so I can check it. I'd also like to head off the broken links before more members start finding them.

This was done yesterday, per my post above:

@Julie Usher, the redirect from the old member profile Activity tab to the Display All Posts page is now in place!

For this:

Also, can you tell me how the content is ordered under "Display All Posts"

The posts are sorted by date. The search results includes calendar events you created (since it includes all content), and calendar events are indexed by the date of the event. So, those aren't old events; they are actually upcoming events in the future (2021, per your screenshot). This behavior will only affect users who can create calendar events, of course.

So where can I vote up this idea: "idea in the hopper for a future release to add a Content Stream to the member profile"?

There isn't a public suggestion here on Hey Stack! at the moment, so feel free to create one so that others can vote on it. When I mentioned it being in the "hopper", I was referring to our internal ideation tracker.

I seriously hope your next release includes this stream again . . .

It's not currently scheduled for release, so I don't have an ETA as to if/when it might be made available.

Hope this helps!

Brian

Regarding the redirects of broken links, can they instead be directed to filtered views of photo content (i.e., what a "Clips-Image" search would return on each profile) rather than to the page with all the content commingled. No one wants to see everyone's comments and reactions . . . i.e., I would like to direct to this view wherever I had past links to people's content streams: https://cookieconnection.julia...TE&type=0-images  This is the most analagous content.

Also, to note: I had subscribed to weekly digest notifications from Crowdstack and thus never got word that this update was happening until after it happened  - a week later. At the time of last update, I spent 5-6 unplanned hours during vacation changing words that you changed on our site back to what they once were. with this update, I spent at least 2-3 hours messaging you to figure out what happened and telling members about this degradation of site value. This is about 9 hours of unpaid, unplanned time! This sort of surprise routinely comes about when you guys update. With something as major as this, it would have been nice if you actually consulted with users of this feature to understand the impact it would have on their sites. I consider ours greatly degraded as a result. I am about to post the suggestion, but this again is creating time and work for users, not value.

JU

Hi Julie,

Regarding the redirects of broken links, can they instead be directed to filtered views of photo content (i.e., what a "Clips-Image" search would return on each profile) rather than to the page with all the content commingled.

No, that's not possible, unfortunately.

We are looking at potentially expediting the member profile posts list into our next release. I can't make any guarantees about it right now, but there's a chance it could be available in the coming weeks. We'll be on the lookout for the suggestion you're going to post!

I'm sorry that the past couple of releases have caused you so much stress ā˜¹ļø Thanks for sharing your feedback.

Have a good weekend,

Brian

I think you all need to think about how you issue your releases . . . maybe they need to be sent to all email boxes a few weeks before release so we're assured of actually getting them and being able to plan ahead. I missed this one because I was on the weekly digest format; now, I'm getting every post to this site (not what I want) just so I don't miss your next notification. Also, consulting with those who pay good money each month before deleting features they use heavily - that would just be good customer service. The last few releases have only made trouble for my site . . . I don't consider this issue closed or resolved.

JU

Again, we really do appreciate your feedback. We are moving on a pretty swift release cycle at least once per month, and sometimes 2-3 times per month. We've been posting announcements in advance of each significant, impactful change, along with a blog announcing the release (typically the day before). I'm sorry that you weren't subscribed, but hopefully that's no longer an issue for you going forward. I don't think it's likely that we will change to sending notices a few weeks in advance at this time.

I do believe this issue should be resolved at this point. We've explained everything and answered your questions and you submitted your suggestion for adding a content stream back to the member profile. Is there something else we can help with here?

Brian Lenz

I WAS subscribed - the turnaround between when you notified and when it happened was so tight that I did not get the weekly digest that it was supposedly in. Now, I'm getting every notification from this site out of fear of missing the next one - which is not ideal. Just wish you'd treat your longstanding customers with more than a grain of salt - and understand that your actions can have serious time- and cost-sucking consequences for us.

JU

The elimination of the Activity Stream is the single worst decision you guys have ever made. Just because it complicated the code was not justification for taking what was a nicely organized place to see activity and dumping everything into one mess of a place now.

Iā€™m really upset about this. It seems you guys are now focused on doing fast updates, with little regard for what your customers actually need.
