Crowdstack contains several icon based menu items and there are times when you may want to replace the icon with text to make the action more clear. For this tip I will be focusing on the search menu item: Each menu item is represented in the DOM using a li -> a, and the items with a icon will contain a i (icon) within the a (anchor). Since I want to customize the search icon I will use a DOM inspector, in this case the one built into chrome to look at that magnifying glass icon used for...

To Dave Dreezer or whomever it may concern: My name is David Evans. For a number of years now I have been the Moderator of Azar Grammar Exchange, a Pearson forum powered by Social Strata. This is the first time I have attempted to correspond with anyone at Social Strata directly. Barry Katzen, the site's former overlord, who was Digital Development Director at Pearson, is, as you may know, no longer with Pearson. Before Barry left, he authorized me to start tech-support tickets directly with...

I would like to generate a Recipe using the "Comment / Reply Posted" trigger which would only look at posts in one of our forums and then take action. Is this possible, or do all recipes act site-wide?
  • QuestionUnanswered
We've been fighting a ridiculous amount of spam after migrating from eve to hoopla. As part of that effort, I've created a recipe that attempts to limit new users ability to post links. Is there any ability in recipes to add a condition for messages that contain links? I've added some trigger words to try to detect them, but its limited, and a well formatted link can bypass the filter. Once posts are flagged for moderation, and we take action on them, it notifies the user. Is there any way...

I understand the idea of consolidating these functions -> into the TAKE ACTION drop down menu on each post. But I'd like to suggest that "Post a Reply" is too important to bury in the Take Action Menu. Out of sight = out of mind, and we want to encourage responses. So maybe two links: Reply & More Actions

I need to change several colors. I find it difficult to relate what I see on the enclosed attachment to where I should edit the colors. There should be an example of the exact area that is indicated in the edit menu to reference the area you want to change. This was always a Sherlock Holmes issue for me on the original site. I know I'm not expressing this clearly... The yellow isn't showing up readable on my mobile site because of the color. Where on the edit screen is that...

What I just love about Hoopla - having only worked with it for a month now - is the simplicity of the backend. It's easy even for a novice to find their way around. Pages load quickly, there's huge field boxes for input and every backend page is easy on the eyes. You can find your way around within a few clicks. It's just delightful to work with. I want to make a suggestion to apply this simplicity to the front end of the home page. I'd like the ability to do away with the right hand column.

If you view a forum thread that seems inappropriate and you want to report it, you can click "take action" in the lower right corner, then select "Report Forums Topic". However, now when you do this, nothing happens. By comparison, if you want to report a post that is a reply to a thread-starting post, you click "Report Reply" and a dialog box opens. This seems to have just started happening with the latest release last week. Any ideas?

Good morning Abby, You could create hidden forums for each of your public forums, but this is not a great solution because it does not scale well. The other option would be to add a reply to the topic after you moved it with where it started from after you moved it to the hidden restricted forum. Through the moderation queue the only action you can take is to approve or decline a message. If it was something volatile that you wanted to keep a record of without approving it, there is really...

Hi Morgan- We are into symmetry as well. In this case, however, there is no real issue. Keep in mind that only you (and other admins on your site) can see the "Add widget" link a the top there. That is the primary thing that is making the page look asymmetrical. Without that though, which is how it looks to your regular users, it lines up evenly with your content column. Note that we reserve the entire width for the title (and potential action buttons) above the content. I've attached...

Hello t-dt: That is not possible currently, but we will consider adding support for that in a future release. Basically, we would add a new action option on the Manage Content control panel page that will allow you to close topics and blog posts... and since you can already filter content by date there, then would solve your problem.
  • Support Topic Reply
A new action under Manage Content would help. However I would hate to think how long it would take to close out 30k topics 50 at a time. thanks

Hi Morgan- We'll consider adding that in a future release. Keep in mind that there are actually two different scenarios. If you created the dialog, the action would be: Delete Dialog If you did not create it, the action would be: Remove Yourself From Dialog (you cannot delete it if you did not create it)

If it's a spammer with relatively few posts, one can do a Search Content (from Manage Content) for the user being banned, Then at the bottom of the screen of results, Select All, then from Action to Apply select Delete Selected Content. That should delete all posts on that page of results. Not so practical if there are hundreds of posts to delete.

We already do display activity points on member profile and in the Member Snapshot (see attached example below). Note that activity points are a much more accurate reflection of user activity/participation in the community that post count, since it comprises many more actions than simple post count, with each action weighted to reflect impact. Location and registration date are also included in the member snapshot (assuming that location info is collected by the site). Our approach is to not...

Hi Steve, We are currently unaware of any issues on your environment. I've done a quick audit of the environment to see if there are any particularly problematic errors that may be at fault, but there's nothing widespread that is jumping out. Note that all of your sites are using Single Sign-On, so this type of problem can often be an issue with the Single Sign-On server, which is outside of our control. It would be helpful if you could gather some more information and specifics on the...

Good evening Becca, There is currently no setting to disable the tagging features, and no way to target the tags action box item that sits on the right sidebar of content pages. Though we are going to add css selectors that can be used to hide those in a future release. You can currently use CSS to hide the tags header and body on the content creation pages. I believe that the following classes are used for all content creation pages: addEditTagsHeader addEditTags If you target those CSS...

I'm often asked for a "Feepod receipt." Would be great if resending the Feepod receipt was an ADMIN ACTION option, including sending it to another address. For whatever reason, Feepod emails get spam trapped by various email providers (the phone companies are the biggest culprit).

We have been able to automate our email drip using recipes. But another part of our funnel involves resending the registration details to anyone who has not verified their email by a specific point post registration. It would be great if "Resend Registration Details" was added as an available action under "Post Registration Action."

This is a small suggestion: When viewing all the blogs, there is a nice hover-over effect that lightens the image every so slightly. It makes you want to click on the blog .....Its a nice affect. But when you are on the actual blog page itself, the hover-over affect still resides and I'm not sure it's actually needed. It kinda makes you want to click on the image/title again, but there is no action behind it. I think it makes sense to remove the hover-over if you are on the blog page...

I hope it works -- I think it is a great way to treat employees. I don't think our bunch is ready for it. Too many little squabbles and turf wars going on. How do you handle abuse? At some point, if it is abused, some kind of action has to occur. I know that you have exceptional employees and don't anticipate any problems, but do you have a plan for what to do if someone does abuse it? Thanks, Donna
